The various vulns can allow an attacker to use your website for phishing lures, to send SPAM, to make you an unwitting malware host, infect other sites (on a shared server), and more.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #999999;\">If you&#8217;re admin on a WordPress install, check to see that you have the following current versions of each affected plugin:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\"><span style=\"color: #999999;\"><a style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit; color: #005399;\" href=\"https:\/\/wordpress.org\/plugins\/wptouch\/\"><span style=\"color: #999999;\">WPTouch<\/span><\/a>\u00a0(3.4.3)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\"><span style=\"color: #999999;\"><a style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit; color: #005399;\" href=\"https:\/\/wordpress.org\/plugins\/disqus-comment-system\/\"><span style=\"color: #999999;\">Disqus<\/span><\/a>\u00a0(2.77)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\"><span style=\"color: #999999;\"><a style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit; color: #005399;\" href=\"https:\/\/wordpress.org\/plugins\/all-in-one-seo-pack\/\"><span style=\"color: #999999;\">All In One SEO Pack<\/span><\/a>\u00a0(2.2.1)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\"><span style=\"color: #999999;\"><a style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit; color: #005399;\" href=\"https:\/\/wordpress.org\/plugins\/wysija-newsletters\/\"><span style=\"color: #999999;\">MailPoet Newsletters<\/span><\/a>\u00a0(2.6.9)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #999999;\">Sucuri recently made headlines with its\u00a0<a style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit; color: #005399;\" href=\"http:\/\/recode.net\/2014\/04\/18\/the-heartbleed-bug-is-mostly-fixed-but-not-entirely\/\"><span style=\"color: #999999;\">Alexa-Heartbleed scan<\/span><\/a>\u00a0in April (showing which sites were still vulnerable), and when the firm published its findings on a high-profile DDoS that\u00a0<a style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit; color: #005399;\" href=\"http:\/\/news.cnet.com\/8301-1009_3-57620208-83\/ddos-attack-is-launched-from-162000-wordpress-sites\/\"><span style=\"color: #999999;\">used 162,000 unknowing websites<\/span><\/a>\u00a0to launch the attack.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #999999;\">The most recent vulnerability is in mobile plugin WPTouch, allowing attackers to upload malicious PHP files or backdoors to the target server without needing admin privileges.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #999999;\">The security hole found by Sucuri on Monday &#8212; which is actually an error in WPTouch code &#8212; would allow an attacker to take over your site, or hijack your best-indexed pages before you discover you&#8217;ve been hacked.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #999999;\">In Monday&#8217;s\u00a0<a style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit; color: #005399;\" href=\"http:\/\/blog.sucuri.net\/2014\/07\/disclosure-insecure-nonce-generation-in-wptouch.html\"><span style=\"color: #999999;\">Disclosure: Insecure Nonce Generation in WPTouch<\/span><\/a>\u00a0post Sucuri wrote,<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote style=\"color: #68737f;\">\n<p style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit; color: #68737f;\"><span style=\"color: #999999;\">During a routine audit for our\u00a0<a style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit; color: #005399;\" href=\"http:\/\/cloudproxy.sucuri.net\/\"><span style=\"color: #999999;\">WAF<\/span><\/a>, we discovered a very dangerous vulnerability that could potentially allow a user with no administrative privileges, who was logged in (like a subscriber or an author), to upload PHP files to the target server.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit; color: #68737f;\"><span style=\"color: #999999;\">Someone with bad intentions could upload PHP backdoors or other malicious malware and basically take over the site.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit; color: #68737f;\"><span style=\"color: #999999;\">So to make a long story short, if you\u2019re running WPtouch,\u00a0<strong style=\"font-weight: bold; font-style: inherit;\">then update immediately!<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"color: #999999;\">The researchers specified, &#8220;This disclosure only applies to 3.x versions of WPtouch. Administrators using 2.x and 1.x versions of the plugin will not be affected by the vulnerability.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #999999;\">Sucuri also noted, &#8220;this vulnerability can only be triggered if your website allows guest users to register.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote style=\"color: #68737f;\">\n<p style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit; color: #68737f;\"><span style=\"color: #999999;\">In this case, the great thing is that we disclosed the vulnerability to the WPtouch team and they swiftly put a patch online to correct this issue (version 3.4.3 \u2013 WPtouch Changelog).<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit; color: #68737f;\"><span style=\"color: #999999;\">In order to correct this issue on your website, all you have to do is to update the plugin on your administration panel. And like we said before, you should do so ASAP.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"color: #999999;\">The news follows a string of recent discoveries revealing a sizable number of exploits and vulns of serious concern to anyone running a WordPress installation &#8212; that also means anyone at your company, if you have departments doing PR or blogging on WordPress.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #999999;\">Update your plugins &#8212; or else<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"color: #999999;\">On July 1 the security team\u00a0<a style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit; color: #005399;\" href=\"http:\/\/blog.sucuri.net\/2014\/07\/remote-file-upload-vulnerability-on-mailpoet-wysija-newsletters.html\"><span style=\"color: #999999;\">found a grave vulnerability in\u00a0The MailPoet plugin<\/span><\/a>, saying, &#8220;If you have this plugin activated on your website, the odds are not in your favor. An attacker can exploit this vulnerability without having any privileges\/accounts on the target site.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote style=\"color: #68737f;\">\n<p style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit; color: #68737f;\"><span style=\"color: #999999;\">This bug should be taken seriously, it gives a potential intruder the power to do anything he wants on his victim\u2019s website. It allows for any PHP file to be uploaded.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"color: #999999;\">Sucuri is on a roll: on May 31 they\u00a0<a style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit; color: #005399;\" href=\"http:\/\/blog.sucuri.net\/2014\/06\/anatomy-of-a-remote-code-execution-bug-on-disqus.html\"><span style=\"color: #999999;\">found two serious vulnerabilities in &#8220;All in One SEO Pack&#8221;<\/span><\/a>, a particularly widely-used plugin.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #999999;\">In case anyone thinks an SEO plugin vuln is no biggie, they wrote:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote style=\"color: #68737f;\">\n<p style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit; color: #68737f;\"><span style=\"color: #999999;\">While it does not necessarily look that bad at first (yes, SERP rank loss is no good, but no one\u2019s hurt at this point, right?), we also discovered this bug can be used with another vulnerability to execute malicious Javascript code on an administrator\u2019s control panel.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit; color: #68737f;\"><span style=\"color: #999999;\">Now, this means that an attacker could potentially\u00a0<a style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit; color: #005399;\" href=\"https:\/\/sucuri.net\/wordpress-hacked-website-security-professional-security-services\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"color: #999999;\">inject any javascript code and do things like changing the admin\u2019s account password to leaving some backdoor in your website\u2019s files<\/span><\/a>\u00a0in order to conduct even more \u201cevil\u201d activities later.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"color: #999999;\">Shortly after the SEO Pack discovery, in late June the researchers also\u00a0<a style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit; color: #005399;\" href=\"http:\/\/blog.sucuri.net\/2014\/06\/anatomy-of-a-remote-code-execution-bug-on-disqus.html\"><span style=\"color: #999999;\">discovered a critical Remote Code Execution (RCE) flaw<\/span><\/a>\u00a0in the popular plugin &#8220;Disqus Comment System&#8221;.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #999999;\">The Disqus issue only affects specific WordPress users.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote style=\"color: #68737f;\">\n<p style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit; color: #68737f;\"><span style=\"color: #999999;\">While the flaw itself is very dangerous, it may only be triggered on servers using WordPress with PHP version 5.1.6 or earlier.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit; color: #68737f;\"><span style=\"color: #999999;\">This also means that only users of WordPress 3.1.4 (or earlier) are vulnerable to it as more recent releases don\u2019t support these older PHP versions.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From zdnet.com&#8230; A new vulnerability in WordPress plugin WPTouch highlights a series of recent discoveries that critically affect active plugins downloaded and used by millions of WordPress bloggers.
