The next time you’re forced to disarm a nuclear weapon without consulting Google, you may run:<\/p>\n

cheat tar<\/code><\/p>\n

You will be presented with a cheatsheet resembling:<\/p>\n

# To extract an uncompressed archive:
\ntar -xvf \/path\/to\/foo.tar<\/code><\/p>\n

# To extract a .gz archive:
\ntar -xzvf \/path\/to\/foo.tgz<\/p>\n

# To create a .gz archive:

# To extract a .bz2 archive:

To see what cheatsheets are availble, run cheat with no arguments.<\/p>\n

Note that, while cheat was designed primarily for *nix system administrators, it is agnostic as to what content it stores. If you would like to use cheat to store notes on your favorite cookie recipes, feel free.

Installing in your home directory<\/p>\n

Download and Install Cheat<\/strong>
\nWe will be downloading \u2018cheat\u2019 from Git. Make sure you have package \u2018git\u2019 installed, if not better install this first.
\n

\n# yum install git (On RedHat based Systems)
\n<\/code><\/p>\n

Next, install the required python dependencies by running following command.
\n# pip install docopt pygments<\/code>
\nNow, clone the Git repository of cheat.
\n# git clone https:\/\/github.com\/chrisallenlane\/cheat.git<\/code>
\nMove to the cheat directory and run \u2018setup.py\u2018 (a python script).
\n# cd cheat
\n# python setup.py install<\/code>
\nIf installation goes smoothly, you should be able to see a cheat version installed on the system.
\n# cheat -v

Required Configuration for Cheat<\/strong><\/p>\n

You must have an \u2018EDITOR<\/b>\u2018 environment variable set in \u2018~\/.bashrc\u2019 file. Open the user \u2018.bashrc<\/b>\u2018 file and add the following line to it.<\/p>\n

export EDITOR =\/usr\/bin\/nano<\/pre>\n
You can use your favourite editor here in place of \u2018nano<\/b>\u2018. Save the file and logout. Again Login to make the changes taken into effect.<\/p>\n
Next, add the cheat autocompletion feature to enable command-line autocompletion for different shells. To enable autocompletion, simply clone the \u2018cheat.bash<\/b>\u2018 script and copy the script to the appropriate path in your system.<\/p>\n

    Optionally, you can also enable syntax highlighting, if desired. To active syntax highlighting feature, add a\u00a0CHEATCOLORS<\/b>\u00a0environment variable in your \u2018.bashrc<\/b>\u2018 file.<\/p>\n
    export CHEATCOLORS=true<\/pre>\n
    The Cheat application default program only serves the basic and most used commands. The content of cheat-sheet resides at location\u00a0~\/.cheat\/<\/b>. Manual Cheatsheets can be added to this location to make the application rich.<\/p>\n
    # cheat -e xyz<\/pre>\n
    This will open xyz cheat-sheet if available. If not it will create one. The cheat-sheet will be opened in the default\u00a0EDITOR<\/b>, we set in\u00a0.bashrc<\/b>\u00a0in the configuration stage, above.<\/p>\n
    Usage of Cheat with Some Commands<\/h4>\n
    A tarball may be *.gz or *.bz2 or *.zip or *.xz. So, what option to be used where?<\/p>\n
